We regard it as a privilege to be able to live in the wonderful surroundings of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We are proud to open up our home in the beautiful village of West Burton to guests for bed and breakfast or self-catering in our attached apartment, Mims. Situated right in the middle of ‘Herriot Country’ (for those of you who remember the books, films and TV series!) West Burton is the ideal base for walking, cycling, touring or just relaxing in the lovely scenery of Wensleydale, Bishopdale and Walden; the three valleys which meet near the village. For hill walkers Pen Hill rises just in front of the house, and Burton Bridge opposite the front door provides a route to explore the delights of the hills and the descent into nearby Coverdale. The Herriot Way walk passes within a mile of the house, and The Inn Way includes the Fox and Hounds in West Burton, making The Garth an ideal overnight stop for walkers. There are also numerous local walks to suite all ages and degrees of athleticism! Details of these are available in the house, and we are always pleased to discuss itineraries and provide suggestions to those unfamiliar with the area. Click here for more details. Amongst a host of places to visit in the area, for film and TV addicts we are within a day’s journey of the film sites for Last of the Summer Wine, Calendar Girls, Heartbeat, and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. For those more in tune with nature, the magnificent scenery of Wensleydale, Wharfedale and Swaledale is on the doorstep, and the three peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent are just a short drive away. The area has an abundance of pubs and restaurants and tea rooms which offer a range of menus and prices to suite every palette and pocket! Or choose to eat in with our ‘Dish of the Day’ evening meal menu which offers a range of home-cooked meals from our own kitchen. Free unlimited wireless broadband internet access is available to all guests in their rooms. Private parking is available in the grounds. |
